Whether
you prefer sitting quietly with a cup of tea or a glass of wine or a trip to a
beauty parlour or spa, the time you make and spend with your self isn’t a
luxury, but a necessity. According to the views of many people I chatted
informally with on this subject, when people make time and enjoy their 'Me'
times by doing what they love, they feel happier, more fulfilled and more
able to deal with the tasking daily activities life brings. Believing
that it is important to make time for yourself is the first step because you
are important! The tasks that need to be done cannot be done 100 % if the
person responsible for carrying out those tasks or responsibilities is not in
the right state of mind. This then means that having a me time gives you the
opportunity to rediscover yourself and regain strength, focus and energy.
How do we make time for ourselves considering our many responsibilities around families, friends and work? Let me show you some of the tips that help me achieve that.
1. Placing Me time at the top of my priority list: For me to feel good and continue to tackle the entire stuff going on around me, I have to make that time out.
How do we make time for ourselves considering our many responsibilities around families, friends and work? Let me show you some of the tips that help me achieve that.
1. Placing Me time at the top of my priority list: For me to feel good and continue to tackle the entire stuff going on around me, I have to make that time out.
2. Planning my Me time: an example of a typical way to plan your 'me' time can be blocking off a weekend afternoon or evening. The same way we make effort to keep to our appointments, we should ensure we form the habit of honouring our individual ‘me’ times.
3. Communicate
your needs: have that conversation with
your spouse or partner about how you two can make time out for yourselves.
couples can arrange a weekend getaway, or simply take a walk together and sit
out in the park, etc. anybody can set time out for some 'me' time. So try to
communicate that effectively to people around which can either be family,
flatmates. You can also have some me time at work. Setting some minutes of your
lunch time apart for just you can make a lot of difference.
4. You
can reduce your outside commitments:
check your outside commitments and see the things you need to eliminate
if you are struggling to make some time out for yourself. Whatever you don’t find fulfilling any more,
just avoid it.
5. Taking
a moment whenever you can: This doesn't mean you must plan a lunch with a
friend or do stuff, it means you can take your time and don’t rush off. An example
can be waking up say 15 minutes earlier to enjoy some meditation while having a
drink. You are more in control throughout the day.
6. Take
that day off if you must: sometimes, breaking the cycle of overload can mean
you need to bring your life to an abrupt halt.
Speak to your manager and arrange some time off if you still have some
holiday left or ask for an unpaid time off if you've used all your holidays. But
when you do get one, try not to use it to catch up on pending to-dos rather
spend the day looking after yourself.
7. Don’t
waste your weekends: you can use your
weekends wisely by relaxing and recharging for the coming week. Cut back on
some activities if you are overwhelmed.
8. Always
have these in mind: Things can wait: don’t
feel guilty relaxing with a nice movie or a lovely book when you've got laundry
waiting, or other chores to do. You can always attend to them later. Just enjoy
that moment you've got for yourself.
I know
this is one of the areas we take for granted because we are used to same old…but
however you want things to be done going
forward, I know you can make it happen. There are too many ways to make ‘me' time possible. Why not share yours with us?
Enjoy a
beautiful week. xx
It's Laura again! So loving u girl. Thank you for this great work you're doing.
ReplyDeleteLet me add by saying that it is very important to give yourself a break!
I enjoy my me time a lot because I like having it in the shower. Av made it a priority to get that time because it refreshes my soul. It is very therapeutic and rejuvenating!
Having your me time helps you think very clearly, bonds couples, gives you time to commune with your MAKER, helps you to come up with solutions to seemingly difficult puzzles (issues of life) and a whole lot of health benefits.
I love my 'me time' because it makes me look younger!!!

No matter your busy schedule, it is very imperative to have some me time. it works for me a lot! its very refreshing and helps you bounce back! Even our machines, cars and other mechanical equipment need breaks from time to time, else they'll break down.
ReplyDeleteOur Heavenly Father knew the importance of me time, that was why he took out time to rest on the seventh day after creation!
It is a way of life we should all adopt! It brings sanity to our homes!
I'm a workaholic and rarely do make time out for myself, really got me thinking after reading this post. Nice. Thanks Laura
