10. The common bread ingredient L-cysteine is
derived from human hair?
Well, I only found out, so I thought it'll be interesting to share them with you! and I've still got a lot more interesting facts to share. so stay tuned!
I've definitely broken most of the 'rules' here!, i'e done the opposite, except the one with alcohol since I don't drink.
ReplyDeleteI'm more concerned about the last one, L-Cysteine. It sounds as if the human hair is its only source! eww! If that's the case, I won't be eating bread any longer!
That being said, L-Cysteine, a non-essential amino acid, truly is found in human hair and can be synthesized by the human body in a normal physiological condition, if sufficient methionine, another amino acid, an essential one, is available.
That being said, it is also found in most high-protein foods including pork, dairy, eggs and poultry and in plants like lentil, red pepper, garlic, onions, broccoli, etc.
Industrially, it can be obtained by hydrolysis of poultry feathers, though human hair can be used as well.
It can also be produced synthetically (acceptable by Kosher and Halal laws), which involves fermentation using the mutant of E. Coli, a bacterium.
With all these options, I want to believe that the bread I eat hasn't got the Cysteine from human hair, probably from other sources, if not, no more bread eating!
Laura the great! You're so right. The above work for me greatly. And ur point 4, wow,I'd struggle with sleep at night whenever I default. Well done dear, you're doing a great job! #The first and Only Lady#
