EYE PUFFINESS/TREATMENT

7 great ways to treat eye puffiness at home

There are very affordable ways to treat eye puffiness without breaking a bank. Sometimes we experience eye puffiness when we want to look awake and refreshed as opposed to tired and unrested., especially us 9 to 5ivers, which can really be a drag. Here are some great ways I know that have worked and are still working  for me.
1.      Cucumbers: cucumbers have rich antioxidants and flavonoids that pacify redness, swelling and even irritation. Its cooling effect helps to constrict dilated blood vessels thereby helping to treat eye puffiness. Place a cool cucumber slice over each eye and relax/rest for about 30-35 minutes. Another way to maximise its effectiveness is to blend 2 to 3 cucumbers, strain the pulp to extract the liquid which you can cool by refrigerating for about 15 to 20 minutes. Next step is to soak the cotton swab in the juice and apply over each eye. Rinse off after 20 minutes or a little bit more.
2.      Raw potato slices: if you don’t have cucumber on hand, raw potatoes can work too. Potatoes provide a natural source of astringents that aid in the removal of excess water from under the eyes. Place washed thin slices of washed and peeled raw potato over each eye for about 10 to 15 minutes.
3.      Cold whole milk: The combination of proteins, amino acids, lactic acids and vitamins A and D  found in whole milk help to treat puffy eyes. Here’s how this works;  get a clean wash towel saturated in ice cold milk. Simply place over your eyes for up to 20 minutes. I prefer doing this just before night bath after the day’s work/activities when I’m not in a hurry.
4.      Tea Bags: to treat eye puffiness, you can use either the caffeinated or herbal/non-caffeinated tea bags. They both have the natural astringent, tannin which constricts the tiny blood vessels in the skin around the eye areas. This is how to reap the benefits of tea as a treatment for eye puffiness.  Place two tea bags in piping hot water. Cool to room temperature and place both over the eyes for up to 30 minutes. Try doing this 1 to 2 times a week to help tighten and tone the skin around the eyes.
5.      Egg whites: egg whites fight eye puffiness by reducing inflammation as well as help to stimulate circulation to the under eye skin.  Simply apply a beaten egg white with either your fingers under the eyes.  Allow to dry and 15 to 20 minutes. Then rinse off with water.
6.      Cold water:  Cold water acts as a vasoconstrictor that reduces blood flow to the skin under the eyes. Maximizing the effects cold water has on puffy eyes, simply soak a clean wash cloth with cold water, place it over the eyes (after squeezing off excess water). Do these as often as you deem fit.
7.      Chilled spoon: although this may be an oldie, it’s still a goodie for beauty tricks lovers like me.  Works in similar way as cold water by producing the same effects i.e. constricting the blood vessels in the skin under the puffy eyes.  You will need to place two spoons in the fridge overnight. Then put the spoons separately over each eye in the morning. It is advisable to wrap spoons in clean cloth or towel to avoid discomfort.
