I
know you are amazed as to how the year seems to be flying past. This time
of the year is always lovely because of the opportunity it creates for family
and friends to spend quality time together while celebrating and commemorating
the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We will start today’s blog with a
famous quote from Basket Ball legend Michael Jordan.
“I’ve
missed more than 9000 shots in my career; I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times,
I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over
and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
The
reason I chose to start the blog with such quote is because I believe it is
powerful message about failure and at the same time has a close link to
success.
No
matter the level we are in our personal and professional lives, we have all
suffered failure. However, what determines and shapes our future is how we deal
with this failure.
Here’s
another of my favourite quote.
Life
isn’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how much you can get hit and keep
moving forward, how much you can take and keep moving forward, that’s how
winning is done”
I
love this quote because it totally strikes a chord with me. It’s as simple as saying when we fail we have
two choices; either crumble and spiral downwards, feel sorry for ourselves and
become resentful towards others or we can chose to pick ourselves up again, learn
from the experience, get better, stronger and more determined. On your path to
success, don’t expect the journey to be free. Expect failure. It is not
something to fear, rather a key component to our success.
When
I was studying the success stories of people like Bill Gates, I came across a
typical case of someone failing severally and I thought it’d be awesome and
inspiring to share with you.
Back
in 1953 in San Diego, California, Dr. Norm Larsen was working on a new
invention, a formula that he hoped will help prevent rusting and corrosion in
vehicles and machinery. Doctor Larsen encountered a lot of setbacks, but on the
40th attempt, he perfected the “water displacement” formula giving
birth to WD-40 which is today considered the world famous brand. Some people
may not know what this is, so I would recommend that you have a quick look
under your sink at home or your garage, you would definitely find a can of
WD-40. I consider this example a typical of finding success from failure. Imagine
working on a particular thing without success up to the 39th
attempt. What if he gave up on the penultimate attempt? But he didn’t, until he perfected his formula
and reached his goal.
So
my peeps, the next time you experience failure, try to remain positive and
remember Doctor Larsen and his end result!.

Failure is truly a motivation for success...we needn't be discouraged' if one actually wish to attain that height called 'Blessed!' .
ReplyDeleteFailure is just a stumbling block' don't let it hold you back. Above all; Jesus Christ have set the typical Example for us all to Emulate!. All the best to us all:-) -Hallelujah HE's Risen!!. Keep believing and keep keeping faith... Xxx. Nice one Laura!
It's usually hard to accept failure and learn from it but once one does, you become a better person. Every great or successful man/woman will tell you without failure at some point in their lives, they wouldn't have been who they are.
ReplyDeleteWinston Churchill, amongst his favourite quotes said, 'success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm'.
Truman Capote, the American writer said, 'failure is the condiment that gives success it's flavour.
According to Paulo Coelho, the alchemist, "there's only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure".
Thomas Edison, said, "I have not failed, I've just found 10,000 ways that didn't work", when he talked about the invention of the electric bulb. Most people would have given up after the 3rd time!
Failure is hard to embrace but I believe when we do, it's not just about it leading us to success eventually because we didn't give up on trying but because we are also convinced inwardly that we are on the right path therefore becoming strengthened and continuing with tenacity in the pursuit of our vision come what may.
This is a beautiful piece. just what I needed at this point in my life. Cheers Lauz. x
